In response to the unprecedented demand for professional tattoo artist training, Holey Skin have recently launched a pioneering tattoo school unlike any other so far offered in the UK. The practical training is to be led by celebrity Tattoo Artist, Kouri Montana (Dirty Sanchez, Johnny Depp) with the backing of Holey Skin Body Art Studios, the leading centre for Tattoo Art in the South West. The administration side of the course will be led by Sara Hopson, Managing Director of Holey Skin, and former Marketing and Business Development Manager of BUPA Hospital Bristol and Nuffield Hospitals South West.
The course entails a 6 week intensive training programme encompassing all facets of the tattoo industry, supplying in hands on intensive practical tattoo training as well as art and design technique and training, including designing for sleeves and backpieces, full equipment, hygiene and sterilization procedure training, studio set-up, customer service, marketing and advertising skills as well as in-house studio experience at one of the four Holey Skin Studios.
The course offers a comprehensive introduction and head start into the once impenetrable tattoo industry. Those candidates who excel within the course may be offered a further apprenticeship within one of the 4 Holey Skin Studios resulting in a Junior Tattoo Artist work placement. We are also in a position to organise placements at other reputable regional Tattoo Studios and are confident that we will be able to place at least 75% of credible graduates.
One former graduate of the Academy is already working within the Holey Skin Studio portfolio at The Lawrence Hill studio, soon to be relocating to the brand new studio in Trowbridge. Another is soon to be taking up a position at the new studio adjacent to the Academy on the Bath Rd.
Former graduate Kate can be seen tattooing with course tutor, Kouri Montana at the Newton Abbot Tattoo Convention in October 2007.
Students will only be accepted to the Academy if they can demonstrate a natural flair for freehand artwork and a dedication to the profession. The course is aimed particularly at art graduates or those with natural creative talent.
Professional tattooing equipment is provided to each student.
The course will run for 6 weeks from Monday to Friday 9.30am to 4.30pm. The course will be carried out in a professional studio and classroom environment with working in-house studio days. Classes will be run with between 4 and 8 students. Students will also have the opportunity to watch demos from Holey Skin’s world class professional tattoo artists, each with very different styles.
